220kV Tuong Duong Substation capacity doubled
At 0:52 AM on October 3rd 2025, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) and the National Power Transmission Projects Management Board (NPTPMB), coordinating with relevant units, energized the Project for Installation of the second transformer at the 220kV Tuong Duong Substation, thereby increasing the substation's capacity from 125MVA to 250MVA.
This is a Class I energy project, Group C, invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation, with NPTPMB responsible for project management and Power Transmission Company 1 for operation.
NPTPMB coordinated with relevant units to energize transformer AT2 at the 220kV Tuong Duong Substation
The project is implemented on the reserved land of the existing 220kV Tuong Duong Substation in Tam Quang commune, Nghe An province.
The project involves the installation of one 220/110/22kV-125MVA transformer AT2.
On the 220kV side, equipment is installed for one 220kV busbar bay of transformer AT2.
On the 110kV side, equipment is installed for one 110kV busbar bay of transformer AT2 at bay E04, one transfer bay at bay E05, installation of 3-phase disconnectors on busbar C19 (bays E01, E08, E14, E16), and completion of the double bus with transfer busbar configuration on the 110kV side.
Transformer AT2 at the 220kV Tuong Duong Substation has been successfully energized
The control, protection and metering systems, communication and SCADA systems have been invested synchronously for the control, protection and metering systems for transformer AT2, newly installed bays and existing bays to suit the new configuration, in compliance with the regulations of Vietnam Electricity, EVNNPT and in accordance with current codes and regulations. Construction and fire protection items have been implemented in accordance with the project scope.
Previously, the investor-level acceptance council chaired by EVNNPT Deputy General Director Nguyen Ngoc Tan held a meeting and the council unanimously approved the project energization
Upon completion, the project will enhance the connection to import electricity from the Nam Mo hydropower plant clusters (Laos) to Vietnam under the agreement between the two governments; release the capacity of small and medium-sized hydropower plants in the southwestern area of Nghe An province that have been and are being prepared for construction investment; and improve the reliability of power supply to the load in Nghe An province.
EVNNPT Deputy General Director Nguyen Ngoc Tan inspected the project progress before energization
Mr. Vo Luong Nhan - Deputy Director of NPTPMB said: During the implementation process, the project faced many challenges due to rainy and flood weather in the area, especially the impacts of recent typhoons No. 5 and No. 10. In addition, scheduling power outages for project construction also encountered many difficulties due to the requirement for high power generation during the flood season. However, with the close direction of EVNNPT and NPTPMB leadership and the units participating in the Project, the Project has now been completed on schedule and is ready to enhance the reception of imported electricity from Laos to Vietnam after the completion of the 220kV Tuong Duong - Do Luong and Do Luong - Nam Cam transmission lines in the near future.
