“Application of BESS system to improve the efficiency of transmission grid operation” made good impression at the Electricity Science & Technology Conference in 2022

09/12/2022 00:00:00

Electricity Science and Technology Conference 2022 organized by the Vietnam Electrical Engineering Association and Vietnam Electricity (EVN), took place in Hanoi from November 24 to November 25, 2022. This is the place to meet, exchange experiences, present scientific research topics of representatives from ministries, enterprises in the energy industry; many experts and scientists from scientific research associations and organizations.

Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 4 (EVNPECC4) is proud to contribute to the Conference with the scientific article: "Application of BESS system to improve the efficiency of transmission grid operation".  EVNPECC4‘s R&D and Quality Management Centre, Power Transmission Division was honored to present this scientific research at the Conference.

Mr. Tran Viet Thanh - Manager of R&D Division, EVNPECC4’s R&D and Quality Management Centre, on behalf of authors group presented scientific papers at the Conference.

At the conference, this scientific article highlighted the challenges and difficulties faced by Vietnam's power system when up to 24,000 MW of total installed capacity of renewable power sources have been connected to the national grid (including biomass, wind power, solar power and hydropower - according to 2021 statistics). As a result, the rapid development in the additional connection of renewable energy sources to the power system has caused many problems in the operation and stability of the power system (excessive capacity, exceeded frequency...).

In order to solve the above problems, through a series of computational tests, the team of engineers from EVNPECC4’s  R&D and Quality Management Centre successfully built the BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) model on PSS/E and PowerFactory DIgSILENTS software.

Representative of EVNPECC4 gave the presentation "Problems for the current status of the power grid system in Vietnam".

BESS with a capacity of about 600MW is equipped at 220kV Buon Kuop (200MW), 220kV Krong Buk (200MW) and 220kV Serepok 4 (200MW) to optimize the generating capacity of renewable energy, improve frequency stability and increase the coefficient of inertia of the power system.

Location and installed capacity of BESS.

The results obtained from the simulation program are extremely positive: BESS installed at sites operate stably, no longer overloading on 220kV lines from 500kV Pleiku 2 substation to 500kV Dak Nong substation. In addition, the BESS system also contributes to supporting electrical load when the renewable energy plants stop generating power.

The representative of EVNPECC4 presented the computational results of “Application of BESS system to improve the efficiency of transmission grid operation” at the Conference.

Concluding at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Tung - Chairman of the Board of Members of National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) highly appreciated the solution "Application of BESS system to improve the efficiency of transmission grid operation". This solution of EVNPECC4 as well as the applications of other entities have been applied and brought great efficiency to the Vietnam’s power system. EVNNPT’s Chairman of the Board of Members  hopes that the entities will continue to constantly research and apply digital intelligence, always be ready to challenge themselves, explore and learn to improve the managing, engineering and operating the power transmission system.

Receiving the directions of  EVNNPT’s Chairman of the Board of Members as well as understanding its mission and responsibilities, in the coming time, EVNPECC4’s R&D and Quality Management Centre commits to being a pioneer in effective research and application, striving to bring more useful values to the Investor, Customers as well as the National Power System.
