Commencement of construction for the 500kV Thanh My Substation capacity upgrade project
On December 3rd 2025 in Da Nang City, the Power Transmission Project Management Board (NPTPMB) coordinated with related units to commence construction of the 500kV Thanh My Substation capacity upgrade project.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Anh - Deputy Director of NPTPMB and related units performing the project groundbreaking ceremony
The "500kV Thanh My Substation capacity upgrade project" is invested by EVNNPT, with NPTPMB representing EVNNPT in managing and operating the project. The investment construction scale includes: Replacing 02 existing 500/220/35kV-450MVA transformers with 02 new 500/220/35kV-900MVA transformers, increasing the total substation capacity to 02 transformers of 900MVA (total 1800MVA); 500kV side: Installing 500kV post insulators and reconnecting the 500kV busbar bay conductors with the newly installed 500kV-900MVA transformers; 220kV side: Replacing 220kV distribution equipment and conductors suitable for the newly installed 500kV-900MVA transformer scale; 35kV side: Upgrading the 35kV assembly and 35kV auxiliary bay, adding short-circuit current limiting solutions on the 35kV side suitable for the newly installed 500kV-900MVA transformers; Construction and renovation of related items to suit the newly installed 500kV transformer scale; Completing the protection control system suitable for the transformers and replaced equipment.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Anh - Deputy Director of NPTPMB speaking at the Groundbreaking Ceremony
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Quang Anh - Deputy Director of NPTPMB stated: The "500kV Thanh My Substation Capacity Upgrade Project" when operational will help enhance the power evacuation capacity for the Quang Nam and Central Highlands regions. It will help ensure power evacuation on the 500kV side of 500kV Thanh My Substation and receive additional power from power sources in Laos; Meet the power transmission needs of hydropower plants and renewable energy on provincial territory and in the region; Ensure stable, long-term, reliable power supply for socio-economic development in the region; Reduce power system losses, improve reliability in inter-regional power transmission operation.
He requested that construction contractors, with their capabilities and experience, concentrate manpower and equipment to properly execute the construction and complete this project as expected by Da Nang City leadership, as well as improve power supply reliability to contribute to serving the socio-economic development of the locality.
Local government representatives affirmed they would create all favorable conditions for site clearance work and coordinate closely with EVNNPT, NPTPMB and contractors so that the project is implemented smoothly, contributing to serving the socio-economic development of the locality and region.
