Completion of Power Capacity Upgrade for 500kV Quang Ninh Substation
At 8:10 am on January 15th, the Northern Power Projects Management Board, in coordination with relevant units, successfully energized the AT1 500kV transformer (600MVA) as part of the power capacity upgrade project for the 500kV Quang Ninh Substation (Thong Nhat Commune, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province), thereby completing the entire project.
Previously, on March 11th, 2021, the AT2 500kV transformer (600MVA) was energized.
Following the completion of the power capacity upgrade project, the 500kV Quang Ninh Substation now has a total capacity of 1,525MVA (2x 500kV transformers - 600MVA each, 1x 220kV transformer - 250MVA, 1x 220kV transformer - 125MVA).

This special-category energy project, classified as Group B, has a total investment of nearly 280 billion VND. The National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) serves as the investor, NPMB manages the project operation, Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 4 (EVNPECC4) provides engineering consultancy, and Power Transmission Company 1 is responsible for operation and maintenance.

An online oil monitoring system has been installed within the project scope for the existing 500kV reactors. Additional camera surveillance systems have been implemented to support the management and operation of the substation. The control, protection, and measurement systems will be configured to accommodate the new 500kV transformers and equipment, ensuring their compatibility with the project's scale.
Completing the power capacity upgrade for the 500kV Quang Ninh Substation enhances the electricity supply for Quang Ninh Province and the surrounding areas. It ensures the transmission of power from the Northeastern power plants as required for the operation of the electrical system.
