Construction Commencement of 500kV Binh Duong 1 Substation Project

On November 13, 2023, in Binh Duong, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), the Central Power Projects Management Board (CPMB), in coordination with related entities, organized the construction commencement of 500kV Binh Duong 1 Substation Project.

This is a special level energy project, of Group B, constructed in An Binh commune, Phu Giao district, Binh Duong province. The location of 500kV Binh Duong 1 Substation was agreed upon by the People's Committee of Binh Duong province in Document No. 1562/UBND-KT dated April 1, 2020.

The project is invested by EVNNPT, with CPMB managing the project implementation, Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 4 (EVNPECC4) conducting construction surveys and engineering, the consortium of PC1 Thang Long and Alphanam E&C carrying out the construction, and Power Transmission Company 4 operating the project.

The main scope of the project includes the construction of a new 500/220kV substation with 2 x 500/220/35kV - 900MVA transformers, in this phase, 1 x 500/220/35kV - 900MVA transformer will be fully installed.

The 500kV side uses a 3/2 busbar scheme including 5 bays: 1 incoming feeder for the 500kV transformer and 4 outgoing feeders for 500kV lines; reserve 1 incoming feeder for the 500kV transformer, 4 outgoing feeders for 500kV lines and 2 bays for bus sectionalizer for current limiting reactors installation.

The 220kV side uses a double busbar scheme with bus-tie including 7 bays: 1 incoming feeder for the 220kV winding of the 500kV transformer, 1 bay for bus-coupler breakers, 1 bay for bus-tie breakers and 4 outgoing feeders for 220kV lines; reserve 1 incoming feeder for the 220kV winding of the 500kV transformer and 6 outgoing feeders for 220kV lines.

After completion, the project will help improve the reliability of power supply to Binh Duong province and the southern economic development region. It will support capacity and prevent overloads at 500kV Song May and Tan Dinh substations, ensuring the safe operation of the transmission system.

The representative of the Central Power Projects Management Board said: “This is an important project to ensure electricity supply to Binh Duong province and surrounding provinces in the Southeast region. This is an area with rapid economic development and electricity growth rate. CPMB requires the units during construction to strictly comply with technical standards and procedures, properly manage occupational safety, health, environment, and ensure construction quality.”

Currently, site clearance for the project is basically completed. CPMB requests the construction contractors and supervision consultants to mobilize forces and closely coordinate with the project management unit and related units to ensure quality and progress, aiming to energize the project in 2024 as directed by EVNNPT.
