Energization of 500kV circuit-3 Nam Dinh 1 – Pho Noi transmission line

At 17:30, August 19^th 2024, the National Power Transmission Corporation, the Northern Power Project Management Board (NPMB) coordinated with relevant units to successfully energize 2 circuits of 500kV circuir-3 transmission line, Nam Dinh 1 - Pho Noi section.

The completion and energization of the 500kV Nam Dinh 1 TPP - Pho Noi transmission line meeting the requirements and instructions of the Prime Minister is a great motivation for the entire construction site of the 500kV circuit-3 transmission line project to complete acceptance and inauguration in the coming days according to the direction of the Prime Minister.

The 500kV Nam Dinh 1 TPP - Pho Noi transmission line project is approximately 127km long, passing through the provinces of Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Hai Duong and Hung Yen, including 334 foundation locations and 144 anchor spans. The project was implemented from January 18th 2024 and was agreed to be energized by the Investor's Acceptance Council on August 16th 2024.

During the implementation process, the project has always received the attention and direction of the Prime Minister, ministries, sectors and leaders of Vietnam Electricity. Along with that is the support of authorities at all levels where the project passes through; the consensus and joint efforts of the people who have given up land for the project and participated in supporting the construction of the foundation excavation phase.

According to the leaders of EVNNPT, in addition to favorable factors, the project implementation process encountered many difficulties and challenges. One of them is that the transmission line passes through many areas of ponds, fields, and crosses many large rivers, so the weak geology requires the construction of 109 pile foundation locations. The total length of piles driven is about 500,000 meters. In addition, due to many anchor spans, there are many 2-leg tower locations, which takes more time to construct. The line has 4 tower locations with a height of 145 meters (the entire circuit-3 transmission line has 7 similar tower locations), weighing more than 400 tons. These are river crossings, and construction encountered many difficulties due to rain and wind conditions.

Along with that, the massive steel production posed a significant risk that exceeded the capabilities of the manufacturers. In response, EVNNPT together with NPMB and contractors have worked hard, implementing specific solutions to speed up the production progress.

Strictly following the Prime Minister's directive with the spirit of "only discussing work, not delays", "overcoming the heat, conquering rain", working "3 shifts, 4 teams", "eat up, sleep quickly", engineers and workers of the units participating in the project have worked with the highest spirit and responsibility to bring the project to the finish line on time.

Also, according to the leader of EVNNPT, in order to meet the progress as directed by the Prime Minister, in a short period of time, many work items have been deployed simultaneously such as construction and installation, erection, wire pulling, installation of positioning frames, technical calibration. Therefore, in addition to the main workforce of EVNNPT units and construction contractors, EVN has called on and mobilized 5 Power Generation Joint Stock Corporations to participate in supporting the construction with a large number of qualified, experienced and skilled workers. Additionally, EVN also received support from Viettel Group, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group... to participate in supporting the construction of tower and wire pulling.

Furthermore, implementing the direction of the Prime Minister, the provincial Youth Unions where the 500kV circuit-3 transmission line project passes through have coordinated with EVN/EVNNPT to establish teams with thousands of volunteer youth union members. The focus is to work with local authorities to propagate and mobilize people to hand over the route corridor; support the demolition of houses and cutting down trees in the corridor; support traffic regulation when pulling wires across traffic crossings; encourage and give gifts to boost the spirit of workers at the construction site.

The project, once completed, will help reduce the load and avoid overloading of existing 500kV transmission lines, ensuring the N-1 criterion. The line also helps to increase the stable transmission reserve on the North-Central interface, combined with the 500kV Quang Trach - Quynh Luu - Thanh Hoa - Nam Dinh 1 sections, contributing to supplementing capacity from power sources in the North Central region to the load center in the North.
