EVN and its units actively respond to 2025 Earth Hour campaign

23/03/2025 10:02:02

Earth Hour is one of the annual global events on environmental protection, with the response of many countries and territories. The Earth Hour campaign has created a massive change in people's awareness and actions around the world regarding saving energy and protecting the environment. Starting in Sydney - Australia in 2007 with more than 2 million participants, to date, nearly 200 countries/territories and billions of people worldwide have responded.

The Earth Hour campaign in Vietnam co-chaired by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Vietnam and the Ministry of Industry and Trade has attracted the attention and response of 63 provinces and cities and many people from all classes. Vietnam Electricity (EVN) is one of the typical units, always actively cooperating to implement the program effectively. 2025 marks the 17th time Vietnam has participated in this campaign.

With the ripple effect of the Earth Hour event and promoting the results achieved over the years, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has launched the movement " All people save energy to respond to Earth Hour 2025" with the message "Green Transition – Green Future." The movement not only calls for electricity savings but also aims at a broader target of encouraging sustainable energy production activities, increasing the use of renewable energy, promoting the application of energy-saving products and devices, and contributing to improving energy efficiency in both economic and environmental aspects.

Actively responding to the Earth Hour Campaign, EVN leverages the pervasive power of the internet, digital transformation, and social networks to promote propaganda on energy saving and environmental protection. EVN has asked its subsidiaries to post content responding to the Earth Hour Campaign 2025 on digital media channels such as website, Zalo, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, etc, in many rich and attractive forms such as infographics, images, video clips, to attract attention and spread widely in the community.

EVN also requires Power Corporations and Power Companies in provinces and cities to promote propaganda on electricity saving and environmental protection at customer transaction locations and unit headquarters. At the same time, encourage organizations, agencies, and customers to turn off lights and unnecessary electrical equipment during Earth Hour from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

Through data on nationwide electricity consumption, the National Power System and Market Operator Company (NSMO)  informs: After 1 hour of light-off to respond to the 2025 Earth Hour Campaign (from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on March 22, 2025), the whole country has saved 448,000kWh of electricity, equivalent to about VND 942.2 million (according to the current average retail electricity price of 2,103.1159 VND/kWh).

After many years of active participation, the Earth Hour campaign in Vietnam has spread widely across the country, becoming a meaningful annual event held every March. From propaganda and awareness raising, the campaign has made a significant contribution in turning consciousness into concrete actions, encouraging the community to practice energy saving, use energy efficiently, and protect the environment.
