EVN and its units actively respond to Earth Hour 2026 campaign

30/03/2026 14:47:32

In response to the Earth Hour 2026 Campaign launched by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has proactively and effectively coordinated the unified implementation of a wide range of communication, advocacy, and execution activities nationwide, contributing to the strong dissemination of the message of efficient energy use and environmental protection.

The Earth Hour campaign is an annual global event initiated in 2007 and has since attracted participation from nearly 200 countries and territories. In Vietnam, the program is co-organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), with participation from 34 provinces and cities as well as broad public engagement. EVN is one of the leading organizations, consistently playing an active role in the effective implementation of the program.

The year 2026 marks the 18th time Vietnam has participated in this campaign. Notably, in recent times, global political, economic, and security conditions have experienced complex fluctuations, with increasing military conflicts and geopolitical tensions in many regions, especially in major energy production and transit areas. These factors have directly impacted the supply of oil, gas, and coal in the international market, causing supply disruptions and significant energy price volatility. This creates major challenges for countries dependent on energy imports, increasing risks to energy security, including in Vietnam. Therefore, energy efficiency is identified as one of the most critical solutions to reduce supply risks, lower production costs, enhance economic competitiveness, ensure national energy security, and promote sustainable development.

With the message “Green Innovation – Green Future,” the Earth Hour 2026 campaign continues to emphasize the role of innovation in energy use, aiming toward green transition and sustainable development. EVN and its subsidiaries have proactively implemented various communication activities on digital platforms such as websites, social media, and customer service applications, while also strengthening direct outreach at communities, organizations, and businesses to raise awareness and promote energy-saving behaviors.

The Group also directed its Power Corporations/Companies across provinces and cities to intensify communication on electricity saving and environmental protection at customer service locations and offices. At the same time, organizations, agencies, and customers were encouraged to participate by turning off lights and unnecessary electrical devices from 20:30 to 21:30 on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

According to data from the National System and Market Operation Company (NSMO), after one hour of lights-off during Earth Hour 2026, the entire country saved 463,000 kWh of electricity, equivalent to approximately VND 1.02 billion [1].

This result continues to affirm the widespread impact of the Earth Hour campaign in Vietnam. It is no longer merely a symbolic event but has gradually transformed awareness into concrete actions within the community. Over the years, the campaign has contributed to forming habits of efficient energy use while raising awareness of environmental protection and climate change response.

EVN desires to continue receiving the attention and participation of all electricity customers through practical actions to use electricity safely, efficiently, and economically, thereby contributing to ensuring national energy security and promoting sustainable development.
