EVNNPT Labor Union Supports Construction Site, Accelerates Completion of the 500kV Hoa Binh Substation Capacity Upgrade Project on Schedule
On April 9th 2026, in Phu Tho, the Labor Union of the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) visited and encouraged employees of the Power Transmission Project Management Board (NPTPMB), along with contractors working on the 500kV Hoa Binh Substation Capacity Upgrade Project—one of EVNNPT’s key and urgent power transmission projects.
The delegation included Mr. Nguyen Huy Thang – Acting Chairman of the EVNNPT Labor Union, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Son – Vice Chairman of the EVNNPT Labor Union, and Mr. Tran The Hung – Director of NPTPMB.
The 500kV Hoa Binh Substation Capacity Upgrade Project is a special-grade energy project (Group B), with EVNNPT as the investor and NPTPMB responsible for project management and execution. The project is being implemented at the existing 500kV Hoa Binh Substation, located in Hoa Binh Ward, Phu Tho Province.
EVNNPT Labor Union leaders presented gifts to encourage units participating in the project
The project scope includes replacing two existing 500/220/35kV transformers with a capacity of 450MVA each with two new transformers rated at 900MVA each, thereby increasing the total capacity of the substation to 1,800MVA. Phase 1 has been completed with the replacement of transformer AT2 and its energization at the end of 2025; Phase 2 is currently underway with the replacement of transformer AT1, expected to be completed in April 2026.
Given that transformer AT1 has been frequently overloaded, the capacity upgrade is crucial to ensuring the safe operation of the power system and enhancing transmission capability from hydropower sources in the Northwest region. The project will contribute to ensuring stable power supply for Phu Tho Province, Hanoi Capital, and northern provinces, especially during periods of high electricity demand. This is an urgent project playing a vital role in ensuring national energy security.
According to NPTPMB, the construction process has faced multiple challenges, including limited working space while the substation remains energized, as well as difficulties in scheduling power outages for construction during the peak hot season. However, with close direction from EVNNPT and coordination with dispatch centers, Power Transmission Company No.1, and Hoa Binh Power Transmission, the project is progressing on schedule and is expected to be energized in April 2026 as directed by EVN and EVNNPT.
Construction units have demonstrated strong determination to complete the project on schedule
At the site visit, Mr. Nguyen Huy Thang – Acting Chairman of the EVNNPT Labor Union – acknowledged and highly appreciated the responsibility, dedication, and resilience of engineers, workers, and staff on site. Emphasizing the critical importance of ensuring power supply for Northern Vietnam in the coming period, he urged all units to continue promoting a spirit of emulation, strictly comply with occupational safety regulations, ensure construction quality, and remain determined to complete the project on schedule.
On this occasion, Labor Union leaders at various levels presented practical gifts to promptly encourage and motivate workers, helping them stay focused and committed to their tasks, thereby contributing to the early completion of the project.
Construction units are working through the night to accelerate project progress.
Representatives of construction units and workers on site expressed their sincere appreciation for the timely and practical support from the EVNNPT Labor Union and NPTPMB. This support serves not only as a significant morale boost but also strengthens confidence and determination among all staff, engineers, and workers to overcome challenges together. With the highest level of commitment, all units pledged to ensure safe construction, maintain quality standards, and accelerate progress to complete the project as planned, meeting the operational requirements of the national power system.
