EVNPECC4 attended the Workshop: Green Energy Transition in Vietnam

On October 10^th, in Hanoi, China Power Engineering Consulting Group Co., Ltd. (CPECC) organized the Vietnam Green Energy Transition Workshop. A delegation from Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 4 (EVNPECC4), led by Dr. Le Cao Quyen - Chairman of the Board of Directors, attended and presented at this international workshop.

The workshop was attended by representatives of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (TKV), Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN), Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority, Institute of Energy, EVNPECC1, EVNPECC2,… and many experts in the field of coal-fired thermal power and renewable energy. The workshop aimed to exchange and share China's experience in energy conservation and carbon emission reduction, improve the quality and efficiency of thermal power plants, promote green energy transition, and introduce new models and technologies to support and accelerate the green transition process in Vietnam.

During the workshop, delegates listened to presentations from CPECC on China's experience in transforming the energy market mechanism; and the green energy transition model: Energy Management Contract (EMC).

Dr. Le Cao Quyen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVNPECC4, presented a paper on the topic: "Prospect of Vietnam's green energy transition". Dr. Le Cao Quyen highly appreciated the content of the workshop organized by CPECC, as green energy transition is currently one of the top priorities in Vietnam's green transition agenda to realize Vietnam's commitment at COP 26 to reduce emissions to zero by 2050.

" EVNPECC4, as one of the leading firms in the field of engineering consulting for power projects in Vietnam, is also actively involved in this trend. With a history of over 48 years of establishment and development, EVNPECC4 has strongly participated in the development of power sources, especially large-scale renewable energy projects in Vietnam. EVNPECC4 is currently the main enginneering consultant for Vietnam's first pumped storage hydropower project - Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower - 1200MW, which is expected to be groundbreaking in the upcoming period." Dr. Le Cao Quyen - Chairman of the Board of Directors opened his presentation on "Prospect of Vietnam's green energy transition".

The problem of coal-fired power plants requires consideration of many solutions from technical, policy, social, financial perspectives, and international experience to balance energy security and contribute to the goal of combating global climate change. Possible solutions can be considered including technical improvements, technology upgrades to improve efficiency, increase flexible operation; improving operation modes, maintenance procedures; researching the application of CO2 storage technology, developing a roadmap and mechanism for transitioning coal-fired power plants to ensure a just transition process for all stakeholders. This is one of the areas where CPECC has a lot of practical experience and EVNPECC4 is also actively participating in promoting and applying these solutions to coal-fired power plants.

"In addition, EVNPECC4 is actively promoting research and development in the field of new energy such as green hydrogen, supporting investors in proposing project locations and renewable energy sources for green hydrogen production. Therefore, I believe that through this workshop, we will all have better and more effective connections when participating in the green energy transition process in Vietnam. Dr. Le Cao Quyen - Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVNPECC4 concluded his presentation.

Over the past time, EVNPECC4 and CPECC have participated in many technical discussions. At the workshop, the two parties signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation in the fields of renovation, upgrading coal-fired power plants, renewable energy projects, pumped storage hydropower, HVDC in Vietnam… 

Also during the workshop, delegates had a roundtable discussion on Effective Methods for Green Energy Transition, listened to presentations on the Significance of Integrated Energy Centers in Green Energy Transition (CPECC - Guangxi Institute); and Introduction to Applied Technologies in Energy Transition (CPECC - Northwest Power Construction Engineering Company)…
