Son La approves investment policy for the 500kV Son La 1 Substation and connecting transmission lines project
The People's Committee of Son La province has issued Decision No. 531/QD-UBND (dated February 14th, 2026) approving the investment policy and simultaneously approving the investor to implement the 500kV Son La 1 Substation and 500kV connecting transmission lines project as the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) under Vietnam Electricity.
The project will be implemented in Mai Son commune and Yen Chau commune, Son La province, with a scope of constructing a 500kV substation with a capacity of 1,800MVA, installing 500kV and 220kV equipment to connect transformers and 500kV transmission line circuits according to the adjusted Power Plan VIII approved by the Prime Minister.
The connecting transmission lines: Construction of 02 double-circuit 500kV transmission line sections connecting to the 500kV Son La - Hoa Binh and Son La - Nho Quan transmission lines, each section approximately 4 km in length.

The project aims to strengthen the power system interconnection, ensure safe power grid operation, improve power supply reliability, stabilize the regional power grid and evacuate power from renewable energy power plants in Son La province; reduce power losses in the transmission network, thereby increasing the business efficiency of EVN and EVNNPT. According to the schedule, the project will be completed and energized in the fourth quarter of 2027.
The National Power Transmission Corporation shall fulfill the investor's responsibilities according to the Coordination Regulations between agencies in the appraisal, management and supervision of investment attraction projects in Son La province issued with Decision No. 1118/QD-UBND dated June 1st, 2021 of the People's Committee of Son La province.
Proactively contact the People's Committees of Mai Son commune and Yen Chau commune, the Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Construction, Department of Agriculture and Environment, and relevant agencies to implement the next legal procedures for the project in accordance with regulations.
