Successful energization of national grid power supply project to Con Dao
At 04:05 on September 4, 2025, Vietnam Electricity (EVN)/Power Project Management Board No. 3 successfully energized the Con Dao 110kV Substation, serving the power supply from the national grid to Con Dao Special Zone.
Earlier, at 19:09 on September 2, 2025, EVN/Power Project Management Board No. 3 also successfully energized the national grid power supply project to Con Dao. This project was inaugurated in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
The successful energization of the project ensures the safe, continuous, and stable power supply for Con Dao Special Zone, meeting socio-economic development needs, safeguarding national defense and security, and improving local living standards. It replaces local diesel power generation, reduces power production costs, limits greenhouse gas emissions, and contributes to Vietnam’s commitments to reducing emissions and promoting sustainable development. The project affirms EVN’s capability in implementing large-scale, modern energy projects under complex and harsh marine construction conditions.
The national grid power supply project to Con Dao is a significant milestone in realizing the national energy infrastructure development strategy. It demonstrates the determination of the Government, the power sector, and all participating units to care for and develop infrastructure in islands and border areas of the country.

Investor: Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
Scale: 110kV voltage level, total length of 103.7km, including:
- Overhead transmission line: 17.5km across Vinh Chau Town, Soc Trang Province.
- Submarine cable: 77.7km from VT32 (last offshore tower) to Con Dao.
- Underground cable on the island: 8.5km from the landing point to the 110kV substation at An Hoi Power Plant, Con Dao.
- Substations: Expansion of the 110kV bay at the Vinh Chau 220kV Substation (Soc Trang) and construction of the 110/22kV GIS Substation at Con Dao.
- Total investment: VND 4,923 billion.
- Commencement: December 2024.
- Completion of submarine cable laying: August 12, 2025.
- Completion of expansion at Vinh Chau 220kV Substation (Can Tho City): August 5, 2025.
- Entire route commissioning: 18:42, August 22, 2025.
- Official energization: 19:09, September 2, 2025.
