The 500kV Viet Tri Substation is being upgraded to a capacity of 900MVA to enhance power supply reliability for Phu Tho province and the surrounding areas
At 5:30 am on October 25th, the Central Power Projects Management Board (CPMB), in coordination with relevant units, successfully energized the Phase 2 installation of Transformer No. 2 at the 500kV Viet Tri Substation.
Construction units conducted pre-energization testing and calibration before installing the second transformer at the 500kV Viet Tri Substation
Previously, the Phase 1 energization of the project took place in April 2021. After the completion, the capacity of the Viet Tri 500kV Substation has been increased to 2x450MVA.
The project is invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), managed by CPMB, engineered by Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 1, supervised by Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 4 (EVNPECC4), and operated by Power Transmission Company 1.
Being a special-grade and Group B project, it has a total investment of over 196 billion VND. The project is constructed within the existing 500kV Viet Tri Substation premises, located in Bao Thanh and Gia Thanh communes, Phu Ninh district, Phu Tho province.
The project involves the installation of a new 500/220/35kV transformer - 3x150 MVA (AT2 transformer) as a backup unit, increasing the substation's capacity to 2x450 MVA. It also includes the installation of an online oil monitoring system for the newly installed AT2 transformer, as well as for the existing AT1 transformer and 500kV surge arresters, including computer systems and accompanying software. Additionally, it equips the substation with 500kV circuit breakers, isolators, current transformers, and voltage transformers to connect the AT2 transformer from a delta configuration to a star configuration
Furthermore, the project also provides equipment for the 220kV busbar section relating to the AT2 transformer, installs lightning arrester valves and a 35kV voltage transformer for the AT2 transformer's balance coil, and supplies control, protection and measurement equipment for the newly installed devices. It also involves the declaration, update, and supplementary configuration of computer control systems for the newly installed devices.
Once completed, the project will ensure a stable and reliable long-term electricity supply for the socio-economic development of Phu Tho province and the surrounding areas. It will enhance the reliability and transmission capability of the power grid, reduce power losses in the transmission grid, and increase the operational efficiency of EVN's power generation and business.
