The ABB Workshop on MVD Variable Frequency Drives and SFC Systems for Pumped-Storage Hydropower Plants
On March 21, 2023, at the headquarters located at 11 Hoang Hoa Tham Street, Nha Trang City, Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 4 (EVNPECC4) in collaboration with Vietnam Automation and Electrification Co., Ltd. (ABB Vietnam) organized the ABB Workshop on MVD Variable Frequency Drives and SFC Systems for Pumped-Storage Hydropower Plants.
During the workshop, engineers from EVNPECC4 were introduced to ABB's Medium Voltage Drives and presented with energy-saving solutions for medium voltage motors installed in power plants using variable frequency drives. ABB shared their experience from implementing similar projects in Vietnam.

Effectively utilizing the Medium Voltage Drives (MVD) system for water pump systems and fans helps minimize the electricity consumption of power plants, particularly thermal power plants, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions and the implementation of the National Climate Change Strategy until 2050 as directed by the Prime Minister.
In addition, ABB Vietnam also introduced the technology of Variable Frequency Drives for pump stations and the SFC (Starting Frequency Converter) system used to start the turbine in pump mode for Pumped-Storage Hydropower Plants. ABB shared their installation experience with SFC systems in various pumped-storage hydropower projects. Furthermore, ABB experts engaged in discussions and exchanged knowledge with EVNPECC4 engineers on related topics.
Through this ABB Workshop on MVD Variable Frequency Drives and SFC Systems for Pumped-Storage Hydropower Plants, EVNPECC4 engineers continue to stay updated on new technologies to apply them in the engineering process.
