The energization of 220kV Nam Sum – Nong Cong transmission line

25/12/2024 19:27:41

The National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) and the Northern Power Projects Management Board (NPMB), in collaboration with relevant units, successfully energized the 220kV Nam Sum - Nong Cong transmission line on the afternoon of December 21st.

This achievement coincides with the 70th anniversary of the Vietnamese Power Industry (December 21, 1954 - December 21, 2024).

EVNNPT is the investor of the 220kV Nam Sum - Nong Cong transmission line project, NPMB is responsible for project management, and Power Transmission Company 1 will operate the line.

This is a double-circuit transmission line spanning nearly 130km with 299 towers and 99 spans, passing through the districts of Que Phong and Quy Chau in Nghe An province, and the districts of Nhu Xuan, Nhu Thanh, and Nong Cong in Thanh Hoa province. The section passing through Nghe An province is 77.31km long with 174 tower foundations, while the section in Thanh Hoa province is 52.64km long with 125 tower foundations. A total of 234 tower foundations are affected by forests along the entire route.

The project, which commenced in December 2021, is a high-priority investment aimed at importing electricity from the Nam Sum hydropower plant complex in Laos to meet the growing demand in the northern region. It also materializes the commitment between the governments of Vietnam and Laos to strengthen energy cooperation.

During implementation, the project faced numerous challenges such as site clearance, difficult terrain conditions, and unpredictable weather. However, with the support of the government, ministries, EVN, and local authorities along the transmission line route, the project has been successfully completed and energized as planned.

Upon completion, the project is ready to transmit electricity from Laos to Vietnam, contributing to ensuring power supply for the northern region in 2024 and subsequent years, while contributing to ensuring the N-1 criteria, enhancing the reliability and safety of the regional power grid.
