Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 4 (EVNPECC4), in collaboration with Power System Technological Solutions Limited Company, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, and Electric Power University, has announced the scientific research project titled “Analyse the influence of different installation conditions on ampacity of HVDC submarine power cables by using CYMCAP software”, The research was published in the Journal of Science and Energy Technology - Electric Power University (ISSN: 1859 - 4557) on May 26, 2023.

The paper was published in the Journal of Science and Energy Technology - Electric Power University (ISSN: 1859 - 4557)

The group of authors conducting this scientific research project includes Mr. Huynh Kim Long - Electrical Engineer at EVNPECC4 Research & Development and Quality Management Center; Mr. Duong Van Phu - Director of EVNPECC4 Research & Development and Quality Management Center; Mr. Vo Quang Thuc - Director of Power System Technological Solutions Limited Company; Dr. Nguyen Dang Toan. Dean of Faculty of Renewable Energy, Electric Power University; Dr. Duong Thanh Long - Vice Dean of Faculty of Electrical Engineering Technology at Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City.

The group of authors conducting this scientific research project

The group of authors researched submarine cables in the context of the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system. This system is utilized in offshore wind power transmission projects in Vietnam, which have received approval in the “National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision extending to 2050”. The paper focused on the following aspects:

“The high voltage direct current (HVDC) using submarine power cables is the optimal solution that carries out the offshore wind source into onshore power systems because of its advantages such as higher stability and lower power loss than the high voltage alternating current (HVAC). Currently, there are no guide standards calculating the ampacity of HVDC submarine power cables according to installation conditions subsea regard to topography, geology, temperature difference …etc in the world, the factors that affect to continued rating current of HVDC submarine power cables. The paper analyses the influence of installation conditions on the ampacity of HVDC submarine cables using CYMCAP software. The simulation results indicate the influence of installation conditions on the ampacity of HVDC submarine cables in different scenarios and applications for HVDC submarine projects in the future”.

Construction of HVDC submarine cables ±320kV/2000mm2 using CYMCAP

Based on the successful research results on HVDC submarine cables, the R&D Center of EVNPECC4 will continue to collaborate with universities, institutions, and partners to publish numerous scientific research publications contributing to the sustainable development of the power industry in Vietnam and globally.
