EVNNPT General Director inspected progress of 2 urgent power transmission projects in Ho Chi Minh city and Dong Nai province

On August 15th 2025, General Director of National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) – Mr. Pham Le Phu and the working delegation conducted construction site inspections of the 500kV Binh Duong 1 substation project and the 500kV Binh Duong 1 - Chon Thanh transmission line project.

The 500kV Binh Duong 1 substation project is being built in An Binh commune (Phu Giao district, Binh Duong province), now Phu Giao commune (Ho Chi Minh City). The project has been assigned by EVNNPT to the Central Power Project Management Board (CPMB) for management and operation.

The main scope of the project includes: Construction of new 500/220kV substation with a scale of 02 transformers 500/220/35kV - 900MVA, in this phase complete installation of 01 transformer 500/220/35kV - 900MVA, installation of 220kV and 500kV bays.

After completion, the project will help improve power supply reliability for Ho Chi Minh city and the southern economic development region. Support capacity and prevent overload for 500kV Song May and Tan Dinh substations, ensuring safe operation of the power transmission system.

Construction of the 500kV Binh Duong 1 substation project

Currently, land clearance work for the project has been completed. CPMB is requiring contractors to accelerate construction to complete the project meeting EVNNPT's directed schedule.

The 500kV Binh Duong 1 - Chon Thanh transmission line project passes through Phu Giao district, Binh Duong province (old), now Phu Giao commune, Ho Chi Minh city and Chon Thanh town, Binh Phuoc province (old), now Dong Nai province.

Project scope: Construction of new 500kV Binh Duong 1 - Chon Thanh transmission line with a length of approximately 16.5 km from 500kV Binh Duong 1 substation to 500kV Chon Thanh substation. Construction of 500kV bay on pre-reserved land at existing 500kV Chon Thanh substation. The project has been assigned by EVNNPT to the Southern Power Project Management Board (SPMB) for management and operation.

Foundation excavation construction for the 500kV Binh Duong 1 - Chon Thanh transmission line project

The project’s objective is to support reducing transmission capacity on the 500kV Chon Thanh - Cau Bong transmission line, ensuring continuous and stable power transmission from the Central - Central Highlands region to the South; creating strong connections between the Central and Southern power systems. 

Currently, the project is in the phase of implementing foundation excavation construction, while conducting land clearance.

During the construction site inspection, EVNNPT General Director Pham Le Phu acknowledged the efforts of CPMB and SPMB in project implementation and emphasized that these are 2 key projects with important significance to ensure power supply for Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region. Therefore, the EVNNPT General Director requested CPMB and SPMB to direct contractors to concentrate resources, accelerate project progress, and be determined to complete these 2 projects in 2025.
